Vineyard Excursions at Villa Kalliste in Kefalonia

San Gerasimos/Robola vineyard: St Gerasimos is the patron St of Kefalonia indeed most males on the island are named after him, Makis, and Gerry! This beautiful monastery is a 25 minute drive from Villa Kallliste – yet, it is rarely open, except some Sunday mornings. However, the side convent, set in lovely grounds is always open and here you can go into the little chapel and even squeeze down into the tiny crypt where St. Gerasimos used to retreat for prayer. His solid silver sarcophagus is also a marvel to behold in the chapel.

Adjacent to St. Gerasimos is the Robola Co-operative Winery. Tours are available on a random basis and you can certainly taste the wines which, in the main, are good quality coiffeurs and inexpensive!! (Gentilini Vineyard near Lassi is also open to visitors and produces arguably the best wine on the island).

St Gerasimos and the Robola Co-operative are about a 15 mintue drive from St. Georges Castle where you will find ruins of the Venetian Fortress (including an amphitheatre) and amazing views. There is also a quaint village with local craft shops and two tavernas.
